Zoey Kahn
Community Governor & Chair of Governors
Zoey lives in Burford with her family and her son attends Burford Primary School. Zoey has been a Governor for the school since 2011 and was elected as the Chair of Governors in 2013. Zoey has a BA in Criminology and a Masters Degree in Criminal Law. She works full time for Thames Valley Police. As the Chair of Governors Zoey’s main responsibility is: • To work with the Head Teacher to promote and maintain high standards of educational achievement • To ensure that the Governing Body sets a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school • With the Governing Body hold the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and for the performance management of staff • To ensure oversight of the financial performance of the school and effective use of the schools resources Zoey is currently the Chair of the Finance and Resource Committee and also sits on the Learning and Teaching Committee. Linking in with the School Development Plan, Zoey is the EYFS Link Governor.
John White
Community Governor & Vice Chair of Governors
John White lives in Burford and is a qualified solicitor. He has a BA from Oxford University in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. John was a partner in a major firm of solicitors in the City of London for over 40 years and was head of the international finance and banking department in that firm for 20 years. John has been a Community Governor for more than 10 years. John is currently Mayor of Burford and is also the President of The Cotswold Decorative and Fine Art Society, Treasurer of The Burford and District Society, a Trustee of the Burford Festival and of Burford Pre-School, a Governor of Burford School sits on the Catholic Church Finance Committee. As a Govenor, John is the Chair of the Health, Safety and Premises Committee. Linking in with the School Development Plan John is the Class Link Governor for Windrush Class, the Subject Link Governor for Literacy and the Link Governor for the School Council.
Jenny Dyer
Head Teacher & Staff Governor
Jenny has been Head at Burford Primary since September 2010 and holds a first class honours BA in Teacher Education, with Qualified Teacher Status, specialising in Mathematics. She holds the National Professional Qualification for Headship and in 2013 gained the National Award for Coordination in Special Educational Needs. Jenny has extensive experience in education spanning over 30 years, including 10 years with Oxfordshire Local Education Authority, involved with school personnel, premises and budgeting; seven years in the secondary sector, before teaching in the primary sector in 2001. In addition, Jenny has served as a primary school governor. As Head Teacher, Jenny has a clear vision of strategic direction, with a commitment to school improvement, working in partnership with the Chair of Governors, Governing Body and whole school community, to achieve the best possible outcomes for all pupils at Burford Primary.
Lucy Staveley
Parent Governor
Lucy Staveley lives in Fulbrook with her family and her two sons attend Burford Primary School. Lucy has been a parent governor since September 2013. Lucy has a BSc in Biology and a Masters degree in Public Health, and before starting a family she worked overseas for Oxfam and the UN, managing public health programmes in emergencies. Lucy is a trained Forest School leader and has helped set up the Forest School for the primary school. As a Governor, she is the Chair of the Learning and Teaching Committee and the Class Link Governor for Priory Class and is also the Subject Link Governor for Mathematics. Linking with the School Development Plan, she has led on the Outdoor Learning project, and together with another associate governor she runs the after school nature club.
Richard Coombs
Community Governor
Richard lives in Burford with his family and has been a Community Governor for 16 years. Richard is the Vicar of Burford and the surrounding villages and is a Governor for two other educational establishments; a secondary school in Cheltenham and an Oxford College. As a Governor, Richards sits on the Finance and Resource Committee, specialising in recruitment and performance management. Linking in with the School Development Plan, Richard is also the Special Educational Need Governor. Richard enjoys all country pursuits and can often been seen out and about walking his black Labrador, Lottie.
Andrew Salsbury
Parent Governor
Andrew Salsbury is a parent governor with three children currently at the school, from nursery to Year 4. Having initially been attracted to Burford by its community feel, he moved here with his wife, Elisabeth, in 2005. As a committed christian he and his family regularly attend the local Anglican church (St John the Baptist, Burford) where he plays an active role in its life, including having been a church warden for five years until 2014 and more recently organising conferences. With primary responsibility for governor training and development, Andrew also sits on the H&S and premises committees and is a class link governor. Highlights of his governor year include folding his 6'2 frame onto one of the children's chairs to join them for Christmas lunch, and returning to the classroom without the threat of being asked a question he can't answer. Andrew runs two local businesses and has an underlying entrepreneurial spirit that he brings to the table.
